From age old times, embroidery is often done at home by women in the household. In the past, your grandma might have taught you the basics of sewing and embroidering and you might have experimented embroidering your name on your pillow cover and bags. If you have developed an interest for embroidery and sewing, you can now turn your hobby into a profitable business with the home embroidery machines. These machines are highly affordable and they are very useful for semi commercial purposes.

What we wear today is a product of the combined efforts of designers, textile manufacturers and the workforce who will produce the finished product. Fashion designers work their artistic way and create different styles of wardrobe which we are using today during different occasions and even during our day to day living. They use the fabric produced by a lot of textile manufacturers. From this, large manufacturing companies would then use the designs to have the mass production of the clothes which all of us are wearing today. Most of all, this would not be possible without the help of a sewing tool.
Initially, sewing machines were manufactured for garment factory production lines, allowing for clothing to become uniformly mass-produced. It was French tailor Barthelemy Thimonnier who invented the first functioning sewing machine in 1830 for use in his garment factory.
This original machine used only one thread and a hooked needle for a chain stitch. His factory was burnt down and he was nearly killed by an angry mob of French tailors who were afraid his machines would leave them unemployed. A few years later in America, Walter Hunt shared the same fears, and abandoned the work to patent his own version of a straight-seam sewing machine. The fears were unfounded, as industrial sewing machines created multiple job opportunities worldwide.
Perhaps the survival of an old Singer sewing machine can be attributed to the fact that the company has always placed high regard not just on quality but also durability. They are made of the strongest materials, and they are highly resistant to any substance that can easily cause deterioration.
Knowing the Age of Your Singer Sewing Machine
The first commercially sold sewing machines from Singer were released in the market during 1851. The company has then stopped manufacturing any of the older models today, though you can still search for their reproductions or replicas. A long time ago, these old Singer sewing machines were identified based on their serial number, which is then recorded in their log book.
If you want to avoid a few sewing machine problems there is much you can do to prevent problems from cropping up. First of all you want to take the best care of your machine whether it’s a standard domestic home or an industrial type like a walking foot sewing machine.
Keep it as clean as possible, oil it often and follow the manufacturer’s suggestion for oiling. This is basic care.
Always keep a supply of the right size needles on hand. If you run out don’t even think about using the wrong size needle, you can do a lot of damage to the machine.

| Review by White Meadow (Brown Deer, Wisconsin) 2010-07-06 I am very pleased with this sewing machine so far. It is quiet and relatively easy to use. My only complaint is that the light does not seem to be situated on the machine in an optimum position. I'm thinking about adding one of those "stick on" lights to supplement what is currently on the machine.... Read more Brother PC-420 PRW reviews | ||

| Review by dasohop (USA) 2010-07-30 This ruffler is difficult to use. I can't tell if it works well, because the directions that come with it are hard to understand. It is supposed to adjust for different types of ruffles and pleats. I guess I will just have to keep playing with it until I figure it out. It does fit my machine, and I think it would fit any machine.... Read more Distinctive Ruffler Sewing reviews | ||

| Review by Bobby Phillips (Magnolia, Texas) 2010-07-21 Gave this as a gift, so it was unopened for several weeks. She used it for less than an hour and it quit working. The bobbin quit turning. Took it to a repair shop, and they said after several more weeks that it was more expensive to repair than the machine was worth. Now it's past Amazon's return window, so I'm stuck with a piece of junk. Cav... Read more Brother XL-3750 Convertible reviews | ||
